Cloud Hopping – Managing Big Data in the Era of On-Demand IT
Driven by massive increases in file-based data, the enterprise is shifting to on-demand IT models to accommodate what has been termed "big data". With digital data expected to grow 44X to 35 trillion gigabytes by 2020, private, public and hybrid clouds are the front lines for change, providing businesses a wide range of options for minimizing their hardware investment and maximizing resource utilization. While innovation in server virtualization and high-speed networking are helping enable on-demand IT, traditional SAN and NAS storage continue to fall short, preventing the enterprise from maximizing the potential of cloud computing and leaving them unprepared to address the challenges of big data.
This session will examine a range of storage strategies that may offer compelling alternatives to traditional models in building private, public or hybrid clouds. By enabling users to scale storage resources in-line with demand, and consolidate a wide range of applications on a single storage system, today's emerging storage technologies can provide more flexibility, ROI and simplicity in delivering on the promise of cloud computing.
This session will also examine how storage can - and must - integrate with leading-edge compute and networking technologies to create seamless, fluid IT infrastructures that can easily adapt to changing business needs, especially in unpredictable cloud environments faced with big data growth.
